A GOOD SIGN FOR LOCAL SMALL BUSINESSES

It is hard to overlook all the progress made in downtown Visitacion Valley these days and two new recently installed signs are making it even harder. Way-finding signage was installed at two locations on September 28th along Bayshore Boulevard directing traffic to ‘Downtown Visitacion Valley.’ The two signs were created to give downtown Visitacion Valley increased visibility and ensure its place as a thriving neighborhood commercial district in San Francisco’s dynamic economy. One north-facing sign was installed above the stoplight adjacent to the Bank of America on the corner of Leland Avenue and Bayshore Blvd. Northbound traffic will see the same sign, installed to a streetlight just past Visitacion Avenue, giving drivers ample time to move into the left hand turn lane onto Leland Ave.

Designed, manufacturing and installed through a Commercial District Capital Grant awarded to VVBOOM, the goal of the project is to increase the overall visibility of the Visitacion Valley business district, capturing drivers and pedestrians to patronize businesses along Leland Ave. As a gateway commercial district into San Francisco from the peninsula, downtown Visitacion Valley is the first neighborhood business district for motorists traveling northbound on Bayshore Blvd. to the heavily traveled Highway 101. Furthermore, it is the final neighborhood business district for motorists heading southbound on Bayshore Blvd. into Brisbane and Daly City.

The recognizable design on the sign comes courtesy of REBAR – the artists who created the massive ‘Streetlife’ art installation adjacent to the Shun Lee Market at 2400 Bayshore Blvd. The two-dimensional graphic featured on the signs mirrors the unique ‘Streetlife’ design, increasing the neighborhood landmark status of the sculpture. The signs were manufactured and installed through a partnership with the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency and their Traffic Sign Shop.
